Spread over 240 sqkm, Bhagawan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary is a naturalist’s dream come true. Located on the slopes of the Western Ghats, it is home to plenty of flora and fauna including elephants, leopards, sambar, gaur, jungle cats, deer and many others.
Adjacent to the Se Cathedral, the Church of St Francis of Assissi, was first built in the early 16th century. It is known for its Tuscan façade, baroque interiors and brilliant gilded altar, and overall architecture. The Archaelogical Museum next door is not to be missed.
A massive and impressive three-storey structure, it stands on sprawling grounds, and is dedicated to Infant Jesus. Carved embellishments, arched doorways, supporting buttresses give it a stark beauty. It is also famous for the remains of St Francis Xavier, patron saint of Goa, kept in a casket.
Located opposite the Basilica, the Se Cathedral, dedicated to St Catherine, is magnificent in size and structure and is known for its architectural elegance. The gilded interiors are eye-catching and tend to awe visitors.

Goan carnival is one of the most exciting celebrations in Goa. It’s celebrated just before 40 days of Lent. Bright colourful parades are organised throughout the state with bands playing feet tapping Goan music, dances and floats out all night on the streets. It’s a time for feasting, drinking and merry-making for all the Goans.
Usually held in April, the LairaiZatra is a popular festival which resembles more of a fair. It is held to revere Goddess Lairai and is commemorated by fire walking by Dhond at the Shirgao Temple. There are also all-night long dances around a bonfire and is marked by devotees walking across hot coals.
This is the Goan version of Holi, which usually falls in March, and sometimes goes on for a week. However, there’s also a twist. While colours form an essential part, the festival is also about valour, homecoming, processions, elaborate decorations, plays and dances, folk songs and martial arts.
For those lazy days, settle in the activity centre which has a plethora of games and activities. Or if you feel like just lounging around, pick up a book from the library and settle down for a good read.
Water activities have a charm all of their own. Whether it is cruising on a motor boat, banana boat rides, battery operated boats for kids or jet skiing, there’s plenty of excitement, thrills and even spills. The activities are only available from November 1 to April 30.
