The Botanical Gardens is nearly 200 years old and has over 1500 species. There’s French architecture at the entrance and the gardens are laid in ornate French style with plants introduced from all over the world. There are musical fountains, aquarium, toy train and rock garden.
Chunnambar beach, just outside town, is a small beach with the sea on one side and river on the other. It is approached by a little boat ride which takes you to an untouched beach with clear water and golden sands. The sea is calm and serene and it is easy to spend hours.

Manakula Vinayagar temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, is the most important temple in Puducherry, and is regarded highly by devotees. The annual festival of the temple, called Brahmotsavam, is a 24-day event held during August-September and is marked by poojas and processions.
The Masi Magam Festival of Pondicherry is celebrated on the full moon day of the Tamil month Masi between February and March, the main aspect of the festival is the bathing of the deities in the waters of `theerthavari' also called Bay of Bengal. Idols from several temples of the area are brought in the early morning to the seafront near Kuruchikuppam in Pondicherry, they are adorned with a lot of offerings such as flowers or food, then the worshipers give them a ceremonial bath through various rituals; on this particular day of Masi Magam the idols of the deities are immersed in the sea as a symbol of purification, the devotees who flock with the processions, take dips on the holy water of the sea with the faith that the immersion would wash away the sins.
The Church of Immaculate Conception, also called the Cathedral, is imposing and beautiful and has a history going back to 1692. The annual fest of the church which falls on December 8, is a grand event marked by masses, festivities and processions.
