Besides the most famous lake of Kodaikanal located in the heart of the town, there are several others in forests and plains. You can hire pedal boats and go boating here. The Berijam Lake is a dream destination by itself and is a haunt for wildlife and is known for magic mushrooms. You need permission to enter here as its in the midst of a forest. Mannavanur Lake, located in a small village in Mannavanur is another beautiful spot
The Silver Cascade is one of the first waterfalls that greets you as you enter Kodaikanal. Look below the bridge and you can see the stream flowing while a smaller waterfall gushes forth. The Liril Falls known for the commercial also called Pambar Falls is another favourite destination. You can also head to Bear Shola Falls located inside a reserve forest but you need permission for the same.There is also Rat Falls and Vattakanal Falls for those who love some adventure in the monsoons.
Created by Lt Coaker in the 19th century, walking down this 1km paved pathway hugging the precarious slopes of the hillocks gives you a feeling of a lovely trail in this hill station. It is a view point as well, giving you a peek into Kodaikanal’s natural wonders
Beautiful dahlias, towering trees, pretty landscaped gardens and some rare flora and fauna beckon you to these two parks - Bryant’s Park and Chettiar’ Park. There is also a pine plantation here for those who love to lose themselves in woodlands
Three large granite rocks stand at a height of 122 metres and is called Pillar’s Rocks, one of the most crowded view points in Kodaikanal. The other is Suicide Point or Green Valley Views, another very touristy spot which is very crowded
Built in the early 1930s by an European lady who married an Indian and converted to Hinduism, the temple is now dedicated to Murugan, also referred to as Kurunji Easwaran. Kurunji refers to the flower that blooms here once in 12 years.
A unique museum which displays a taxidermy collection of over 500 species of wildlife and birds was started in the mid 19th century. For nature lovers, you can also see variety of orchids growing here while culture enthusiasts will understand the tribal culture of the areas through the displays.
For those who love to see stars and go on night trails and see life on the universe through the lens of the telescope, then a visit to the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory and the Astronomical Science Museum run by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics is a must.

In February - March every year, the Mariamman temple near the Kodai Road station celebrates its annual grand festival for 15 days. Every day, a different community partakes in the festivities while the Goddess is brought out in a chariot daily dressed in different costumes.
Pongal, the harvest festival is celebrated in the villages around Kodaikanal every year in January. This is the most important festival for all Tamilians and besides the dish, Pongal which is cooked and offered to the Sun God, the festival is also all about colour and celebrations and continues for five days.
One of the oldest churches in Kodaikanal celebrates the Mother Salette Festival in August every year for nine days. There are special services, processions and a grand feast on the last day
This is the best way to discover the myriad lakes and waterfalls of Kodaikanal. There are several hiking and trekking routes around the hills. You can hike around shola forests and there are several scenic view points.
