Porbundar was once an ancient port and settlement, but is most well known today as the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi. Visit his ancestral home here, and the Kirti Mandir nearby. The town also has the only temple to Sudama, the friend of Krishna, as well as other ancient temples.

One of the former princely states, Jamnagar is still known for its palaces. The Darbargadh Palace and Pratap Vilas Palace show a fusion of European and Rajput architecture; Lakhota fort and Kotha bastion are worth a visit for their museums and displays. Jamnagar is also a birdwatchers’ paradise.
